LGBT+ Shit That Blows

Hey everyone! This Saturday is moving day for me and I remembered I have to email my professors about my name and pronouns. For those of us who are in the process of transitioning but haven’t changed our legal names yet, informing professors about our names and pronouns is a really important thing to do if it’s what you plan to do.

I go to a liberal school (University of North Texas) so I most likely won’t have issues with professors outing me. Some people even refer to Denton as a smaller version of Austin.

I was looking for sample emails to help get me started on my own an I came across this page on Ohio University’s website. It has a nice sample email and I thought it might be useful to some of our followers.

I am a student in your (insert class name here). I am getting in contact with you to let you know that I identify as (insert identity here). My name will probably show up on your roster as (insert legal name here), but I would prefer to go by (insert chosen name here) and (insert preferred pronouns) pronouns. Well, as of sometime this past week, that’s what it is again.

Ok, story time.

So, today, I went to financial aid to take care of my independent status application, but since they lost the other letter I need, that’s been put off until next week. I asked them how much I still owed on my bill, confident that I would hear $1300 dollars.

Long story short: I didn’t.

Apparently, thanks to my idiot of an American History professor from the spring, who lost my paper, so I subsequently failed his class, I have to pay for that class out of pocket.

So I now once again owe my school $2500 dollars.

And they changed the due date of the money. It’s now August TENTH!

So I have less than four weeks to get $2500 dollars so that I can stay in school.

Guys, this is a HUGE deal for me. Since my mom and I are on permanent outs with each other and I have no medical insurance, I need to stay in school. I have bi-yearly appointments that are NECESSARY so that we can monitor my iron levels and to make sure that I’m not diabetic. Also, I would love to have a roof over my head for a little while longer.

At this point, I don’t really know what to say. I mostly just want to throw up because I feel sick to my stomach over all of this.

So guys, I am begging right now. Really, I am. I just want to stay in school.
